3 WNYers find a way to make handball cheaper. Here's how they did it.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's an effort to bring a once widely played sport back to our region.

A group of local men want to bring the community together through the sport of handball. But this time, they want to help make the sport more affordable for players.

The three men met through the love of the game. They often play the sport together during the week, but after finding that their handballs wouldn't last long enough to finish their session, they decided to come up with their own version.

Handball is often compared to racquetball and can be played in or outside. There are a few courts in Western New York where you can play, including one at the Catholic Club of Buffalo on Delaware Avenue in Allentown.

This is where the group met and came up with the idea for the Buffalo Ball. It's a blue rubber ball that sells for $7.49, a few bucks cheaper than its competition. They believe it has a better bounce and are promoting it, along with a game to bring people together.

"We went through a bunch of iterations and came up with a product that was really a higher quality and the good news is that it wasn't costing $10 or $11 to make. We have a box in the back that actually has many balls that are spilt in half," Tim LaMere, founder of Buffalo Ball said.

They hope people will come out and join them. To learn more about handball or Buffalo Ball, you can head to their website.
