BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority on Thursday kicked off Black History Month by celebrating the winner of its bus wrap competition.
A design by Daemen University student Amani Fanning was picked to adorn two different NFTA buses. The winning design pays tribute to Western New York's African-American culture and celebrates a historic landmark.
"When I made the artwork, I wanted to give flowers back to people in the community that I feel like paved the way," Fanning said during a Thursday morning news conference. "So shout out to the Colored Musicians Group, also the criterion. I highlighted both because art history is important, and I wanted to shine light on that."
The announcement also featured a special performance by performers from The Colored Musicians Club.
