BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — A New York State University introduced a live mascot to their campus on Thursday.
In a post made to their social media pages, Binghamton University wrote: "BIG (AND SUPER CUTE) NEWS! Thanks to a new partnership with Animal Adventure Park, we're introducing a new mascot to our lineup: a living, breathing bearcat/binturong named Bing! We’re so excited to welcome him to the Binghamton family! See you soon on campus, Bing!"
Bearcats also know as a Binturong, are found typically in South and Southeast Asia according to the Smithsonian's National Zoo website.
"Binturongs are also called bearcats but are not closely related to bears or cats. They are in the family Viverridae with other small cat-like mammals, including civets and fossas. They are the only members of the genus Arctic." the Smithsonian's National Zoo says.
Many campuses across the country are well-known for their live mascots such as LSU's Tiger, Yale's Bulldog, the University of Texas's Longhorn and more.
