ANGOLA, N.Y. — Get out the football and beach chairs because Bennett Beach is now open for the summer.
Ahead of the holiday long weekend, Erie County officials are reminding people about the free beach on Lake Erie. It's about 40 minutes south of Buffalo, in Angola.
There are bathrooms, a playground, a ton of room on the beach to set up, and lifeguards on duty.
"It is one of the best beaches in all of the Great Lakes," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said. "It's as simple as that. It's very large, beautiful white sand, and when you compare it to areas, I've had people come here and say they thought they were on the Atlantic Coast."
The beach is open for swimming from noon to 7 p.m. daily, but make sure you check the county's website for any closures before you head out.
A reminder: no dogs, alcohol, and/or campfires are allowed on the beach.
