BATAVIA, N.Y. — A building caught on fire and collapsed on Friday in Batavia.
The fire happened on Swan Street. Firefighters said the building collapsed within 10 minutes of them arriving to the scene.
2 On Your Side was told the building was going to be torn down before this fire happened.
"As we arrived, shortly after we ended up with almost a total building collapse," Batavia Fire Department captain Robert Fix said. "And with the exposure next door, we went to a third alarm to make sure we had enough units here to cover any potential problems with the exposure building.
"Out here, there was fire throughout probably 90% of the building. Coming from the windows, roof, both floors."
The Batavia Fire Department said it is still investigating the cause of the fire.
