ATTICA, N.Y. — A 10-day lockdown at Attica Correctional Facility was lifted on Friday.
The state prison lockdown went into effect Nov. 28 after what began as inmate-on-inmate violence, which led to corrections officers being hurt, including one who was stabbed.
New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, through a social media post on Friday, said 58 weapons were recovered during the course of the lockdown.
"The lockdown was initiated due to an increase in incarcerated on incarcerated violence, as well as incarcerated on staff violence at the facility. The investigation into the incident leading up to the search is ongoing," the statement said.
According to the post, Acting Commissioner Daniel F. Matuscello III had ordered the correctional facility to be locked down to conduct a search following several incidents between inmates.
