BUFFALO, N.Y. — Costco Wholesale's coming to Buffalo typically evokes one of two responses from locals: excitement, for those who have long awaited the retailer’s arrival, or concerns about the traffic it will bring.
The wholesaler is expected to open at the site of the former Tony Roma's restaurant on Ridge Lea Road in Amherst, across from Carrabba's Italian Grill in the Boulevard shopping plaza. Formerly known as the Boulevard at Consumer Square, the plaza is owned by Benderson Development Co.
Among the documents provided to the town Planning Board for the Amherst Commerce Center concept was a supplemental traffic impact study. It showed that the project — which also includes a new Dick’s House of Sports, renovated KeyBank offices and a Delta Sonic warehouse and office site — is expected to generate nearly 300 new vehicle trips during the peak morning hour, roughly 800 during the peak evening hour and about 1,200 during peak hours on Saturdays.
