BUFFALO, N.Y. — For the second time in the past two months, the Buffalo Sewer Authority is left to mourn one of its own.
The Buffalo Police Department announced this weekend that 69-year-old Michael Cosgrove, a city employee since 1995, was struck and killed by a vehicle late Friday night.
According to the news release, around 9:30 p.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of William Street on reports that a person was hit by a vehicle. When they arrived at the scene, they found Cosgrove lying on the road and pronounced him dead at the scene.
BPD's Accident Investigations Unit was called to the scene. The alleged driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and spoke with officers. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and other signs of impairment.
After failing field sobriety tests, 36-year-old Curtis Hall was placed under arrest and transported to ECMC for a blood draw.
Hall is facing charges of one count NYS PL 125.12-1, Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class D felony, and one count VTL 119-3, Driving While Intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
The incident adds to what has already been an incredibly tough past two months for the city, coming just weeks after another Buffalo Sewer Authority employee, 22-year-old Keyshawn Gault, was shot and killed on the job while driving in a city vehicle on the 190.
Police still have not officially announced the arrest of a shooter in connection to Gault’s death, but last month arrested 19-year-old Tameir Garner as a person of interest.
2 On Your Side contacted the City of Buffalo to learn if Cosgrove was on the job at the time of his death, but it did not receive an immediate response.
