BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you're a poet and you know it, a chance for you to express you're writing skills and expand your career has just opened for the fourth year.

Just Buffalo Literary Center's 2024 Poetry Fellowship award has opened applications for the public to submit their poetry.

The chosen poet will receive a $2,500 honorarium, a free month-long summer residency in Buffalo, and the opportunity to perform as a featured reader at Just Buffalo’s Silo City Reading Series.

Poets who apply for the award will be judged by New York City writer and poetry professor at Lafayette College, Megan Fernandes. She is the author of three poetry books titled, The Kingdom and After (Tightrope Books, 2015), Good Boys (Tin House, 2020) and I Do Everything I’m Told (Tin House, 2023).

In 2023, the Poetry Fellow who won, Ae He Lee, says that it was a great experience to be part of as a poet.

“Everything about the program was wonderful," Lee said. "I felt supported and encouraged by every single person I met during my stay in Buffalo. I’m grateful The Just Buffalo Literary Center Poetry Fellowship was my first residency experience,” Lee also added.

Adult poets any age over 21-years-old or career stage can apply to win the Fellowship award before the deadline.

The application deadline is on February 29 and the winner will be announced in mid-April. Eligibility, requirements and other details as well as the application can be found online at justbuffalo.org.
