EAST AURORA, N.Y. — On Sunday evening the East Aurora School District received an anonymous report of a potential threat to their schools.
Following the threat in a letter sent to parents, Superintendent Brain D. Russ wrote "The information that was reported indicated that the threatened behavior was potentially planned for the end of the school week. We immediately contacted law enforcement and the FBI and we are cooperating with them as they attempt to determine the source and credibility of the threat."
Out of caution the school, parents were also told that their would be an increased presence of law enforcement at all of the schools buildings starting on Monday and throughout the week.
As of Monday night Russ provided another update to parents stating:
"I am writing to provide an update regarding the information I shared with you last night. Through their efforts overnight and today, law enforcement was able to identify the source of the potential threat and confirm that the threat is not credible. The District will continue to cooperate with law enforcement to determine next steps to address the individual involved."
He also went on to address that the schools aims to be "as transparent as possible" when it comes to such threats, and that students along with staff are always the main priority.
