Fire breaks out at senior apartment complex in Amherst

The fire was reported just after 5:00 p.m. at the complex near North French Road and Hopkins Road.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Residents were moved to the Amherst Senior Center after a fire broke out Sunday night at the Hopkins Court Apartments. 

The fire was reported just after 5:00 p.m. at the complex near North French Road and Hopkins Road at 2250 North French Road in Getzville.

According to the Amherst Police Department, the fire started on a balcony area of one of the units. 

Numerous residents were evaluated for various minor injuries and residents with minor injuries were transported to local hospitals. Other residents were transported to the Amherst Senior Center at 370 John James Audubon Pkwy which, is now closed as of 1:00 a.m. on Monday. It was used as a warming shelter and to offer assistance to those displaced. 

Gas and power have been cut in the area as a precaution and all residents were either transported back to their unaffected apartments, or hotel arrangements were made on their behalf.
