Amherst Police respond to serious motorcycle crash on the 290

The crash happened shortly past 11 a.m. Saturday when a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle crashed into the rear end of a 2015 Honda CR-V, police said.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Amherst Police responded to a serious motorcycle accident that happened Saturday morning on the 290 West near Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The crash happened shortly past 11 a.m. Saturday when a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle crashed into the rear end of a 2015 Honda CR-V, according to Amherst Police.

The 20-year-old man from Cheektowaga riding the Kawasaki motorcycle was taken to Erie County Medical Center by Twin City ambulance with serious back and head injuries, and a wrist injury. 

The 39-year-old man driving the Honda CR-V and his passengers were not injured.

Amherst Police officers are asking for help from anyone who witnessed to the crash, or drivers with dash-camera footage of the area or incident. If you do, you're asked to call the police department at 716-689-1311.

No charges have been filed at this time.

"Currently all three lanes are shut down and are unpassable. Please avoid the area if possible," police said in a statement shortly before noon.

NITTEC reported that the westbound lanes of the 290 between exits 4 and 5 — Millersport Highway to the 990 — were closed around 11:20 a.m. That portion of the 290 reopened some time past 2 p.m.
