HAMBURG, N.Y. — If you're expecting an Amazon delivery in Western New York today, there's a good chance your package will be on the conveyor belt of the new "last-mile" delivery station on Bayview Road in Hamburg.
The facility just opened earlier this fall, so they are still ramping up their capacity — but the holidays are peak season. Amazon associates are processing 40,000 to 50,000 units each day.
The Hamburg warehouse is the final stop before packages end up on your doorstep. They come to Hamburg from larger facilities, such a fulfillment centers in Rochester or Syracuse and "middle-mile" sort centers, like the warehouse on Walden Avenue in Lancaster. Amazon purchased land in Niagara County to build a fulfillment center.
Not all Amazon warehouses are created equal. For example, the Syracuse fulfilment center houses 40 to 50 million products. Its peak inbound/outbound unit volume is one million daily.
Packages that come through the Hamburg site are sorted by zip code and delivered to places like Orchard Park, Springville, Lackawanna, and the City of Buffalo. There's also another "last-mile" delivery station in Tonawanda.
The Hamburg location has 150 drivers in its fleet, some of whom are employed by Amazon. Others are DSPs, or delivery service partners.
