Aid available for those who need help paying their heating bills this winter

Applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) are now being accepted.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Utilities are reminding customers in New York that enrollment for heating assistance is open for this winter.

The Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income people pay the cost of heating their homes. The utilities NYSEG and RG&E reminded customers Tuesday that enrollment for New York's HEAP program is now open.

Eligibility and benefits are based on income, household size and other factors.

Information about how to apply for HEAP in New York state is available online at: otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/.
