BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Weaver's Guild of Buffalo first set up shop back in 1969 by a small group of women after learning to weave at the Buffalo YMCA. Today, the group celebrates 55 years of education, community and friendship with their anniversary exhibit titled, 'Connections.'

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, September 18 from 6 to 7:30pm; however, the exhibit will be open to the public before that. The show will run from Tuesday, September 3 through Friday, November 29 from 9am to 7pm.

The new exhibit will feature all original designs of hand-woven, felted, hand spun, and mixed media work by members of the guild. There will also be prizes awarded at the opening reception judged by Jozef Bajus, an Associate Professor of Design and Coordinator of the Fiber Program at Buffalo State University.

"After much discussion, we decided that so many things in our individual lives are shared, very similar and connected," project coordinator Peggy Kresovich said. "Therefore, the exhibit is called connections."

Many of the items at the exhibit will also be available for purchase. The price will be listed on the wall in the exhibit if that item is for sale. Guests can buy things like hats, scarves, mittens, socks, shawls, and baskets.

Kresovich shared each collection is different based on whatever pieces the members are working on. This year, there's an antique toy sail boat with sails woven in a pattern from the 18th - 19th century. Many pieces in the collection are in the 'mixed media division.'

"All pieces show the care and thought that went into each piece," Kresovich said. "The community should be prepared to be awed. The colors, workmanship, and the type of pieces are unexpected."

There will also be opportunities to learn weaving, spinning and knitting throughout the month.

Guests can view 'Connections' on display at the Fox Run Community Gallery in Orchard Park. For more information, visit their Facebook page here or the Weaver's Guild of Buffalo website
