BATAVIA, N.Y. — Two people are in the hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a tractor-trailer and a car Friday night in the City of Batavia.
City of Batavia Police said the tractor-trailer hit the car near the intersection of Ellicott and Jackson streets around 9:30 p.m. Friday. That's when police say a southbound 2012 Ford Focus ran a red light at Ellicott Street and was struck on the passenger side by a tractor-trailer heading east.
Both the driver and the passenger in the car were trapped and had to be pulled out. The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn't hurt, police said.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Ford Focus were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated.
"The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and charges are pending," police said.
The City of Batavia police and fire departments, Mercy EMS and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team all assisted at the scene.
