NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — This weekend in the Niagara River, kayakers will participate in the 18th annual Paddles Up Niagara event.

Paddles Up Niagara is a family friendly event that gives participants a safe and fun way to experience some of our best natural areas and habitats in Niagara County.

The event will be on Saturday, July 27 at Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island with check-ins at shelter 2B. The first 200 people who register will get a free t-shirt and can do so by clicking here. Registration is free to all.

"Whether you are a novice or an experienced paddler, you will enjoy spending the morning with an enthusiastic paddling community. Guides and safety paddlers will be on hand to assist and answer your paddling questions. Continue the celebration by visiting with the many exhibitors and vendors to learn more about our waterways and greenspaces. Stick around for some refreshments and prize drawings, including a paddle board!" Paddles Up Niagara writes on their webpage.

At the event there will be a variety of activities such as an eco tour, 15-minute kayak trial sessions, a fun paddle, and more. To view the full lineup click here

There will also be free admission offered to tour the Grand island Historical Museum at River Lea.

Those who are looking to rent a kayak for the event can do so at the Blue Water Marina. People also must be wearing lifejackets while on the water at all times.
