15 years later - Flight 3407 families vow to never stop fighting for airline safety

It is a somber anniversary. Today marks 15 years since the crash of Flight 3407 in Clarence Center, a suburb of Buffalo, NY.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A vigil will be held where the Colgan Air Flight 3407 crashed and landed on a home.

It is now a memorial dedicated to all who died.

The victims' families have come together, not only to help one another, but to fight for aviation safety. Their fight has helped the entire nation feel safer in the skies.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer has been with the families from day one making sure Washington does not forget the victims and the need to make sure pilots are experienced before they can fly commercially.

"Working with the families has been one of the most satisfying and inspirational things that I have done in my entire career in Congress. We're here today to honor those we lost and their legacy, which has changed the course of American history when it comes to the safety of our skies," Schumer said.

Karen Eckert's sister Beverly was killed. She is among the families fighting for airline safety. "The FAA bill is close to the finish line. You know it's the House and the Senate version and will merge into one final bill and we hope and we're watching that nothing sneaks into it at the last minute and it stays strong like it is. We know, again, Senator Schumer, you have our back. You'll be with us every step of the way. We'll be there with you because we're continuing the fight too."
