We've heard about some big plans for the Buffalo Outer Harbor, but for them to happen, there needs to be some big infrastructure fixes.
Congressman Brian Higgins (D-26th district) announced Monday $12 million will be coming in from Washington, DC to help fix the Outer Harbor's infrastructure.
Most of that money will be used to pay for much-needed repairs to the breakwalls to ensure safety for development along the waterfront.
"We would not have Buffalo Harbor State Park, we would not have the marina, we would not have Wilkeson Pointe, and we would not have all of the recreational opportunities that are developing along the outer harbor without strong navigational infrastructure."
One of those breakwalls hasn't had any major repairs for about sixty years, and has a thousand-foot gap.
Work should start in the spring and should take about two years.
