The 11 Day Power Play is back

Charity hockey event raised more than $10 million for local deserving cancer causes

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roughly 2,500 hockey players are hitting the ice at the LECOM Harborcenter for the 11 Day Power Play Community Shift.

The event started in 2017 when organizers, Mike and Amy Lesakowski, decided they wanted to make a difference, and they attempted to set the world record for the longest continuous hockey game. All week volunteers have been working to transform the Harborcenter preparing the facility for the event.

In the first year, the event raise more than $1 million.

"We've been able to surpass $11 million. Our 11 Day community has raised that in eight years, and we've been able to support over $6 million worth of cancer research at Roswell Park wellness programs, as well as Camp Good Days. We've been able to send more than 600 kids to camp," Amy Lesakowski said.

This year the event supports the Roswell Comprehensive Cancer Center, Oishei Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Program, Camp Good Days and Special Times, and the Make-A-Wish foundation of Western New York.

The fundraiser concludes on June 30.
