BUFFALO, N.Y. - October 12, 2006 was a calm fall day that turned into a historic day that we would come to remember as the October Surprise Storm.

During the early afternoon, the rain started and then the winds, and eventually there was snow. The heavy snow falling on trees that were filled with leaves was a disaster.

Buffalo was hit with an early lake effect snowstorm.

Roads started shutting down and travel bans were in effect.

Thousands of homes were without power and it would last for days especially in Snyder, Amherst and other points north.
