Lancaster Schools To Meet On New Mascot

Lancaster schools are moving forward in their search for a new mascot.
Local newspaper says it will no longer print nickname of high school in its sports pages.

LANCASTER, NY - Lancaster schools are moving forward in their search for a new mascot.

Members of the student organizational committee will hold a press conference Thursday, April 23, at Lancaster High School at 1:35 p.m. to discuss the process for selecting a new mascot for the district. The committee is expected to outline the method and timeline created for the mascot selection.

Students from a cross-section of high school groups and representatives from Lancaster Middle School and William Street School make up the committee, which will facilitate the selection process for all students in grades 4 through 12 and third grade student representatives from the elementary schools.

The search comes after the school board's decision to stop using the "Redskins" as the mascot for the district. Last month, the board voted unanimously to change the nickname.
