BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Mayor Byron Brown has suspended Joe Mascia from his post as Tenant Commissioner at the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority.
The BMHA's Board of Ethics forwarded a request for the suspension and termination of Mascia to Mayor Brown earlier this month.
Mascia was suspended on Aug. 19. He was also charged with numerous violations of the BMHA's Personnel Policy and Code of Ethics.
Mascia was recorded making racist remarks towards Mayor Brown and other local African American leaders in a conversation he thought was private.
Mascia is also still running for the Fillmore District Common Council seat.
The hearing is expected to start in late September or early October.
