Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly delivered the news his fans had hoped to hear, by announcing he had been declared cancer free.

20 years ago this week:

Hurricane Frances struck Florida with a fury causing $10 billion in damages.

The 3rd National Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival was held at Coca Cola Field.

After being vacant on a prime parcel at Erie Basin Marina, the former Crawdaddy's restaurant was being converted into Shanghai Reds which would later become Templeton Landing,

The NY State Department of Motor Vehicles began rolling out its new vehicle inspection program requiring that local mechanics feed information, via computer to Albany to confirm whether vehicles were meeting emissions standards.

American Brass was being sold at a time when 660 workers employed at its factory in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood.

The Wonder Bread plant on the city's east side was being shut down after more than 80 years of operation. The building has yet to be repurposed and remains vacant today.

30 years ago this week:

Fans celebrated a championship for Buffalo's newest professional sports team which, in just its first season of play, captured the Roller Hockey International title. The team's nickname is the the subject of this weeks News 2 You pop quiz (for the answer watch the conclusion of the video attached to this story).

The  phone banks were readied and the Channel 2 studios were prepared to host the annual MDA telethon held over Labor Day weekends to benefit "Jerrys Kids".

Pop music star Michael Bolton performed a concert at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center and then came to Buffalo the next day where the softball team he traveled with, Bolton's Bombers, participated in a charity game against local celebrities at Pilot Field.

Popular actor and fashion model, Fabio was spotted dining at Capuccinos Restaurant in Lewiston.

Do-it-yourselfers who were accustomed to shopping at home improvement stores such as Chase Pitkin, Builder's Square and Grossman's suddenly had a new option when the first Home Depot opened in Western New York. Thirty years later Home Depot remains a home improvement store powerhouse while the other three are no longer in business.
