BUFFALO, N.Y. — 10 years ago this week:
When the annual Bills training camp opened fans we pinning their hopes on the youthful quarterback-receiver combination of 2nd year signal caller EJ Manuel and rookie pass catcher Sammy Watkins, who were the teams top picks in the two previous drafts respectively.
The Tift Pier at Buffalo's outer harbor was officially opened.
Plans were announced for a solar farm to be constructed on land at the former Bethlehem Steel site. At 20 acres in size it would have been the largest in the state at the time. A decade later some of the solar farms under construction are measured in square miles.
The first organized pickleball tournament to ever be held in Western New York was underway. One of the many senior citizens participating in what was a relatively new sport to the area described it as, "the most fun you can have and keep your clothes on."

Martha Stewart was sentenced to 5 months in prison for her conviction on security fraud related crimes.
After a judge ruled the Senecas could not build their third Western New York casino near the airport in Cheektowaga as they wanted to, they began exploring other potential locations including the Convention Center, DL&W Terminal, the Central Terminal, the Statler, the Inner Harbor, and the Outer Harbor before finally settling on land near the the Cobblestone District where the Buffalo Creek Casino exists today.
30 years ago this week:
More than 55,000 music lovers attended a concerts at Rich Stadium during the second stop on a tour that marked the first time two popular performers had ever toured together. Thew concert is the subject of this week's News 2 You Pop Quiz (for the answer watch the conclusion of the video attached to this story).
That same week the F-16's were out, and the KC 135 Stratotankers were in, as the mission of the 107th group at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base officially switched from one of fighting to refueling.
