Hiring immigrants for local businesses

The goal is to combat the workforce shortage and other hiring challenges after the pandemic.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The New York State Restaurant Association is helping local business owners tap into a new pool of employee candidates.

It's connecting business owners with immigrants who already call Western New York home.

The goal is to combat the workforce shortage and other hiring challenges after the pandemic.

"We're exploring new avenues of where to get fresh employees from who are ready to work and all these great international institutes of Buffalo journeys end all those great places are here in Buffalo to help us out and not a lot of people know about it so we thought we'd bring people together tonight and tell them and teach them how to go about hiring immigrants in the proper way and what these institutions have to offer us," Maria Macpeek, the WNY Territory Manager for NYS Restaurant Association said.

Nearly two dozen business owners took part in the seminar Tuesday night.
