BUFFALO, N.Y. — Western New York health care providers received $89.5 million in Medicare reimbursements in 2017, according to data collected from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. But both physicians and provider organizations received just a third of the amount they billed on average.
Locally, that included $66 million paid to 91 individual physicians, plus $23.5 million to 18 provider organizations such as ambulance companies and surgery centers. A total of 57 providers received more than $500,000 apiece; including 23 local physicians who received at least $1 million.
That’s up from five years ago, when just 11 local providers received Medicare payments exceeding $1 million. You can read the full article on Buffalo Business First's website.
