BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's an urgent need for O+ and O- blood donors in Western New York.
ConnectLife put out the emergency call after a "massive need" at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).
ConnectLife says a teenage patient at ECMC recently needed more than 20 units of O- blood and 30 units of O+ blood. That left the stored blood types to be completely emptied at ConnectLife.
“Unfortunately, this shows just how tenuous the blood supply can be in the summer,” said Sarah Diina, Senior Director of Marketing & Community Development at ConnectLife. “One incident can have an incredible impact on the ability for local hospitals to have blood ready for those who need it.”
ConnectLife is a community blood bank that supplies blood products to several hospitals in WNY, including Kaleida Health, ECMC, Eastern Niagara Health, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Brooks Memorial Hospital, Bradford Regional Medical Center, Olean General Hospital, and Wyoming County Community Health System
Those with O+ and O- blood types can donate any any ConnectLife center. To schedule an appointment, text GIVEWNY to 999777, visit ConnectLifeGiveBlood.org or call 716.529.4270.
Those who donate will be entered into a weekly drawing for VIP tickets to Bills Training Camp. Also, those over 21 years old in July will get two-for-one beer vouchers at Fatty Beer locations.
