CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — Officials in Chautauqua County confirmed Tuesday afternoon that there are three cases of COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, in the county.

Health officials provided an update on Tuesday.

The latest confirmed case is an individual who resides in the Ashville area and had recent travel to New York City.

The two individuals announced Monday, include a woman in her 30s, who lives in the Dunkirk area, and a man in his 30s who lives in the area of Silver Creek. Wendel says both recently traveled to the City of Buffalo; however, both appear to have had separate exposures to the coronavirus.

All individuals have been in precautionary quarantine or isolation.

Brooks-TLC Hospital also confirmed Monday that one of the positive cases was seen in the emergency room, but was discharged to quarantine at home.

Brooks-TLC added that they appropriately screened the patient when they arrived in the emergency room, took measures to reduce the risk of exposure for hospital staff, and are currently working with the county health department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“We knew that it was inevitable that the virus would be confirmed in Chautauqua County,” said Wendel. “Everyone must be vigilant in supporting social distancing and respiratory hygiene measures, which are urgent and necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
