BUFFALO, N.Y. — We are celebrating our first responders. The Week of May 20th is recognized as National EMS week. It's a time to honor emergency personnel, who are on the front lines providing immediate care to those in need.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first EMS week, and to celebrate 2 On Your Side stopped by AMR, where there's a recruitment effort underway called the "EMT Earn While You Learn Academy." The program allows students to get paid while earning their New York state EMT certification.
As an employee, they also offer courses for other certifications so you can train to be a first responder and expand your skill set. There are three academy classes scheduled for this year. The first is in June. Applications for the September course open in July. If you want to attend "EMT Earn While You Learn Academy" in December, you can apply in September.
