BUFFALO,NY-- Former Buffalo Sabres' goaltender Marty Biron became a U.S. citizen on Tuesday.
Biron was one of more than two dozen people who officially became U.S. citizens in a naturalization ceremony at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural site in Buffalo.
Biron said he is excited to become a citizen of the United States after being in the country for about 20-years. When Channel 2's Claudine Ewing asked why he wanted to become a U.S. citizen, he said "I married a Buffalonian, I've got four kids, for us to be a family and part of the process." He has been unable to vote. "I laughed all the time saying I don't have a vote anywhere. I can't vote in Canada, I'm not a resident, I couldn't vote in the U.S. I'm not a citizen. I never really had a chance to vote in any election."
Biron, who was born in Canada, currently lives in Western New York. In all, people from 18 different countries became U.S. citizens at the ceremony.
The former Sabres goaltender played in Buffalo from 1995 until 2007.
