BUFFALO, NY - Two Erie County residents are facing charges for allegedly growing marijuana.

Erie Co. Sheriff's narcotics detectives, with help from the department's Air-1 helicopter, discovered two separate, unrelated growing operations in the towns of North Collins and Collins on Monday.

Fifty large, mature plants were found off Langford Rd. in North Collins. In the second case, 40 mature plants were spotted on Brewer Rd. in Collins.

Howard Smith, III, 52 of North Collins and David Kehr, 23, of Collins are both charged with a felony count of criminal possession of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of unlawfully growing cannabis.

The Sheriff's department estimates the value of the plants after processing to be between $10-15,000.
