Emmy Award-winning writer, producer in Buffalo to film new project

Fontana, who graduated from Buffalo State University in 1973, will be working with a production crew made up from students at the college.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Tom Fontana will be Buffalo this week to film a new project with students at Buffalo State University

Filming is expected to begin Sunday and go through Saturday for Fontana's "The Wrong Road." The project will include actress Kathryn Erbe, who played Detective Alexandra Eames in "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and Lee Tergesen, who played Tobias Beecher in Fontana's series "Oz."

"The Wrong Road" is about a young man who gets lost while driving across the state and meets two strangers that know all the details of his life.

Fontana, who graduated from Buffalo State University in 1973 and created shows such as "Borgia," "Oz," and "Homicide: Life on the Street," will be working with a production crew from Buffalo State's Television and Film Arts (TFA) program.

"My hope is that this film project will be another step in the Buffalo State TFA program's ever-expanding curriculum and exciting growth," Fontana said in a release. "Our students will be interacting with a trusted and talented group of professionals."

"Not many undergraduate students across the country can say they have worked on a project with an Emmy Award winner," Annas said. "This provides an unmatched learning and networking opportunity for our students, and positions Buffalo State as a major player in higher education for the burgeoning film industry," said Aaron Daniel Annas, Buffalo State associate professor and director of the Television and Film Arts program.

While there were no locations listed as to where filming will take place, they are currently scouting locations across Western New York.

Once finished, the 30-minute film will premiere at the North Park Theatre in North Buffalo on May 12 at 11:30 a.m.
