BUFFALO, N.Y. — Villa Maria College will have a new leader starting Friday, but for the first time in school history it will have a non-religious male president.
Matthew Giordano, Ph.D, will be sworn in as the fourth president in Villa Maria history. The Rochester native has been a part of the school since 2005. Throughout those 14 years, Giordano has served as the vice president of academic affairs and interim president before his appointment as the new president in March.
"Dr. Giordano is the perfect person to entrust with the future of Villa Maria College," said Catherine Grantier Cooley, Chairperson of the board of trustees. "Since accepting the role of president, he has proven himself to be dedicated to upholding the College's mission and its core values; this has been apparent in every decision he has made thus far."
During his time at the college, Giordano has played a critical role in launching new academic programs and increasing enrollment. He was also able to help secure a $1.8 million grant while serving as VP of academic affairs.
Giordano has a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from Binghamton University and holds Master's and Ph.D's from Ohio State University.
