St. Joe's music students win big at awards show

The school took home five awards at the Shea's High School Musical Theater Awards over the weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Music students from St. Joe's have reason to celebrate.

The students received 12 nominations and won five awards including outstanding collective vocal performance, dance execution, production of a musical for their production of "Guys and Dolls."

The awards took place this past weekend.

"Coming out on top really means a lot, especially given the talent of every school there," said Joe DiMaio, a student at St. Joe's. It was a really great turnout. Everyone has such great skill. And walking away with so many awards was really heartwarming, and made me feel really incredible. Especially coming from the whole casting crew, knowing how much work we put into it to get the production, they're seeing such great recognition really meant a lot to all of us. "

"Everyone was really highlighted in every number," said Breanna Ring, a St. Joe's student. "And I think just like the heart of our cast, got us to that point. "

"I think all of us kind of feel this universal feeling of pride," said Anna Karassik, another St. Joe's student. "And we're all feeling so blessed to be together and be able to take on this challenge and be in this amazing, like opportunity and having this amazing outlet for all of us. So we're all celebrating but we're also reflecting on just how grateful we are."

St. Joe's students are now working on a senior lead production that will make its debut very soon.
