STAR program encourages children to develop strong reading skills

The Buffalo Police Athletic League and Literacy Buffalo Niagara are working together on a program to help children develop strong reading skills.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Athletic League and Literacy Buffalo Niagara are teaming up on a program to help children develop strong reading skills.

The STAR program will hold sessions from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The Monday and Wednesdays sessions will be held at Machnica Center (1799 Clinton Street), while Tuesdays and Thursdays will be over at Hennepin Center (24 Ludington Street).

"Activities emphasize vocabulary building, fluency, and comprehension," Buffalo PAL said on its website. "The overall goal of the program is to get our youth reading for fun and to 'Share the Art of Reading.' "
