BUFFALO, N.Y. — Fifty one volunteers of Read to Succeed Buffalo were honored Friday with the President's Volunteer Service Award, recognizing volunteers who have contributed over 100 hours to the Western New York community and Buffalo schools.

The volunteers included the organization's literacy tutors- who provided nearly 8,000 hours of community service and tutoring support in 2023.

According to a release, President Biden expressed his appreciation for each volunteer in personal letters- stating we live in a moment that calls for "hope for our futures, light to see our way forward, and love for one another. Through your service, you are providing all three."

Read to Succeed was first established in 2007 as a response to staggering reading proficiency rates for Buffalo citizens. The nonprofit works closely with elementary-age students, from pre-k through third grade, to strengthen reading skills, improve reading scores, and prepare children for Kindergarten.
