LEWISTON, N.Y. — Niagara University says they will be offering four years of free tuition to first year students.
First-year students will be offered a full tuition grant if their families have a total income of $80,000 or less, and reasonable assets. This is a value of $37,000 per year, according to Niagara University.
The opportunity is called the 'Full Flight Scholarship'. On their website, Niagara University writes, "With a full selection of career-focused academic programs, real-world learning opportunities, outstanding faculty, and a relentless emphasis on student success, Niagara University already offers a tremendous return on your educational investment."
So how does the Full Flight Scholarship work? According to the university's website, it's a "last dollar" financial aid program. So, once you receive all of your other scholarships, aid and grants, then the Full Flight Scholarship covers any remaining tuition balance.
You have to to be a New York State resident to apply for the scholarship. While there is no deadline to apply, Niagara recommends that you submit your admissions application, FAFSA, and NYS TAP application as soon as possible.

Last month, Canisius University announced a similar program called 'Buffalo Promise Scholarship'. The Buffalo Promise Scholarship effectively covers 100% of tuition for up to four years of undergraduate study at the university to eligible admitted students
“We know that a Canisius education is transformative, opening doors to opportunities and experiences that set students up for long-term success and a lifetime of meaning,” Canisius University President Steve Stoute said in a release. “Our vision is to make the Canisius experience available to all qualified students by breaking down the barriers of cost and building up student outcomes, and the Buffalo Promise Scholarship is a significant step in that direction.”
To qualify for the Canisius scholarship, students who live in the City of Buffalo or an adjacent town with ZipCode beginning with 142 apply to Canisius for the undergraduate Fall 2025 semester, live in a household with an adjusted gross income of $125,000 or less and submit applications for FASFA and TAP by March 1, 2025.
