BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo's Nardin Academy announced on Monday they have named a new permanent president.
Dr. Eric Miles will now oversee the school beginning in July 2025. Miles currently is serving as president at a college prep school in Florida.
“Eric’s extensive educational leadership experience led him to be unanimously selected by the board of trustees, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Nardin family,” said board chair Marsha Joy Sullivan in a release.
“I am deeply honored to join Nardin Academy as President and am inspired by the strength and resilience of this community,” said Miles. “Together, we will continue to build on its legacy of academic excellence and uphold the Academy’s rich traditions while embracing the possibilities that lie ahead.”
“Since 1857, Nardin has prospered by remaining true to the principles upon which it was founded, and Eric's personal values and professional commitment to academic excellence and service uniquely position him to mindfully advance Nardin’s mission,” said Anita Baird, US Provincial of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary, Nardin’s founding religious order.
Nardin's current president has been Rebecca Reeder since July of 2023, after former president Sandra Betters stepped down due to calls for her resignation.
“I am excited to spend time with Dr. Miles and work with him on a smooth transition,” said current Nardin President Rebecca Reeder. “I have the utmost confidence in his ability to lead Nardin to continued success in the future.”
In April of 2023, Nardin Academy students walked out of class to protest the school's leadership, specifically the then president Sandra Betters.
The demonstration was different, with students holding what they called a "walk-in" as they arrived to class.
Many students, parents, and Nardin Academy school board members had believed Betters created a culture of "intimidation, mistrust, and harassment."
