LEWISTON, N.Y. — Former Niagara University President Father Joseph Levesque has died.
Levesque began as a faculty member at Niagara in the 1970s, and later became the Dean of Arts and Sciences before serving as its President from 2000 until 2013.
Leveque was well respected and beloved by many.
In 2013, Niagara's Institute for Civic Engagement was named in his honor.
Leveque was the fourth longest-serving president in the school's history.
He was 85 years old.
“Father Levesque leaves a tremendous legacy, which impacted everyone who had the chance to meet him,” said current Niagara University President Fr. James Maher. “He will be forever remembered for his faith-filled legacy of pastoral care, his leadership of the Province and Niagara University, and his never-ending commitment to service of the poor and the oppressed. Father Levesque was a shining example of what a Vincentian priest should strive to be, and he will be greatly missed.”
A Mass of remembrance for Fr. Levesque will take place Tuesday at Noon at Alumni Chapel in St. Vincent's Hall. The public is invited to attend.
