LOCKPORT, N.Y. — The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognized the successful programs at Lockport City Schools and the district's positive impact on students.

On July 30, the Lockport City School District received the "Champions of Change" award for the district's leading efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Programs including the districtwide "We all belong" campaign and Aaron Mossel Junior High's “Blizzard of Kindness” program received notable recognition.

Recognition was "unsolicited" according to Tricia Andrews, a NYSSBA Area One Ambassador and Awards and Recognition committee member. Her committee visits nearly 300 school districts per year to evaluate the success of inclusive programs.

The "We all belong" program will continue through 2029 as a part of the district's strategic plan, creating a welcoming environment for students and staff. It inspires the school district's slogan “We are lions. We all belong.”
