ELMA, N.Y. — The Iroquois Central School District revealed its new logo.
The board of education on Wednesday shared the new logo, which will be used starting in the 2024-25 school year. They will be known as the Red Hawks.
The district says the Red Hawks design is subject to change.
The New York State Board of Regents late in 2022 voted to prohibit the use of Indigenous team names, mascots, and logos by public schools. West Seneca, Tonawanda, Cheektowaga, Salamanca, Jamestown, and other Western New York communities also committed to change.
If districts failed to comply with the state's directive, schools could be penalized by having school officers removed or state aid withheld.
