Free summer meals available for students

The goal of the federal program backed by groups like the Buffalo Police & Fire Departments tries to ensure that no child goes hungry when school’s out of session.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Free summer meals are now available for students across Western New York.

On Wednesday, Buffalo’s Free Summer Meals program kicked off with the goal of making sure kids eat healthy and stay active in the summer months.

The free meals are available to all children under 18. They just need to show up at a site offering the program. Nutritious breakfasts and lunches will be available through the program.

The start of the program in Buffalo began with an event at one of the summer meal sites, Cazenovia Park Baseball Diamonds on Warren Spahn Way.

Feeding America estimates that one in five children in New York face hunger daily.
