Retired supt. to become new interim at Depew UFSD

The role will begin on Monday, August 12

DEPEW, N.Y. — A familiar face is at back at the helm in the Depew school district.

Retired superintendent Dr. Jeff Rabey will take over the role as interim superintendent for Depew United Free School District. The transition will take place on Monday, August 12. The Board of Education President Todd Bush made the announcement Tuesday.

Dr. Douglass Whelan was serving as the interim superintendent since January 1. He took over for Dr. Hank Stopinski, who retired and resigned from the District.

"We thank Dr. Whelan for helping lead the district through the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year and into the new school year," Bush said. "We look forward to working again with Dr. Rabey, whose expertise and knowledge of the district will be an asset to the Depew community."

Dr. Rabey was previously the superintendent for Depew UFSD for 12 years before retiring in 2021. Last year, he served as the interim superintendent in the West Seneca School District.

A search for a permanent superintendent is still underway and more information will be released in the coming weeks, Bush said.
