Pick for Buffalo State president has offer 'rescinded'

Dr. Bonita Durand will lead the campus through the 2025-26 academic year as the school searches for a new president.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dr. Chance Glenn, who had been selected to lead Buffalo State University in July, will not be stepping into that role after SUNY "rescinded" its offer.

Buffalo State issued a statement Wednesday evening, adding that Dr. Bonita Durand will lead the campus through the 2025-26 academic year as the school searches for a new president.

A March 2 report by the Victoria Advocate revealed ethical concerns raised by faculty about Dr. Glenn. the concerns included "potential conflicts of interest, double standards, and a research grant," the report said.

Buffalo State issued a statement confirming the news Wednesday evening. The focus of that statement was on Dr. Durand, with Dr. Glenn mentioned just once in the 241-word news release.

"We are grateful for Dr. Durand’s wisdom and service," SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr., said. "As interim president, Dr. Durand has provided seamless leadership in enhancing student success and moving the campus toward financial sustainability. I am grateful that Dr. Durand will continue implementing that work, which will also allow time for a full search for the next campus president."

Added Buffalo State Council President Linda Dobmeier said: "I want to thank Interim President Durand for her dedication and service to the Buffalo State community. I look forward to her continued support for our students and campus in our efforts to achieve excellence."

Dr. Glenn issued this statement to 2 On Your Side's Ron Plants on Thursday.  "I would only like to say that I am disappointed that this was not able to happen. I have come to love the City of Buffalo and regret not having the opportunity to engage in the city more deeply and to experience all it has to offer. I wish great success to Buffalo State University and I believe it has a bright future ahead of it."

Dr. Durand is expected to provide updates for the university going forward.

"It is an honor to continue to serve the Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff — a community I have been proud to be part of for more than 20 years," Dr. Durand said. "I look forward to working with the SUNY Board of Trustees, Chancellor King, and the Buffalo State community to continue to advance our mission to serve our extraordinary students.”
