BPS switching to half days this week, citing excessive heat

The district said lunch will be served to all students before they are dismissed.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Citing excessive heat in the forecast, all Buffalo Public Schools will switch to half days next week.

The decision impacts BPS students in all early childhood, elementary, and middle school grade levels on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The district said lunch will be served to all students before they are dismissed at 10:55 a.m., 11:45 a.m. or 12:35 p.m.

There are no BPS classes on Wednesday, which is the Juneteenth holiday.

High school students will have half days on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. They will not be in school on Monday due to the New York State regents exams.

"High school students will be expected to report for their regularly scheduled NYS regents exams throughout the rest of the week. Water stations will be available for students taking the regents exams," BPS said in a statement Saturday.

Staff will have full workdays at their assigned locations.
