BUFFALO, N.Y. — We're getting more details about a strange incident that happened Monday afternoon as a school bus was taking some Buffalo school students home.
We will emphasize right off the top that no one was hurt when the school bus with kids was struck with something on the return trip home Monday.
A Buffalo School District spokesman confirms young students from the Bennett Park Montessori School on Clinton Street were aboard the bus Monday with the driver and bus aide when sometime after 4 p.m. something - probably a rock according to Buffalo Police - hit a Route 627 bus window.
A worried parent told 2 On Your Side about this and while not wanting to do an interview did pass along an apparent cell phone picture of that shattered driver's side window.
We heard back from a First Student bus spokeswoman that at first, the company heard it was a bullet with gunfire or a pellet from a BB gun that hit the window. But they called in Buffalo police and found that was not the case. Police tell us it probably was a rock.
Fortunately, the startled bus driver pulled over safely, and contacted her supervisor, and the frightened students were sent home with school support staff available if needed.
The parent who called us raised issues with proper notification by the school district. But other district parent-connected sources feel this incident was handled properly with the school district waiting for First Student and Buffalo police confirmation.
The district said Tuesday afternoon that robocalls, emails, and actual letters sent home with students went out to parents.
A city spokesman confirms police are still investigating to see who may thrown a rock or whatever happened.
Anyone with more information is asked to call Buffalo Police or First Student.
