BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's that time of the year again where students head back to school in Western New York.

With students heading back to school, that means busses will also be back on the roads making for busier commutes all around for those in the community who drive daily.

The NYS DOT is reminding people that no matter what, drivers always have to stop when passing by or driving behind a school bus.

In a social post made by the NYS DOT they wrote, "School will be starting soon and there still seems to be some confusion about when to stop. Two lanes? Four lanes? It doesn't matter. When the school bus stops, you stop too."

Not only are State officials sharing back to school safety reminders, but local officials are as well.

City of Buffalo Mayor, Byron Brown shared a reminder with the community that the school bus arm initiative is underway. The grace period for the initiative ends on September 30. Fines will be enforced as of October 1.

Signs are currently going up around the city as a reminder for those who may have forgot.
