Alden school district says it received 'threatening email'

The email came in around noon, and all students and staff were put in a shelter-in-place as an investigation began.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Alden Central School District confirmed that schools were temporarily placed on lockdown on Friday afternoon after the district says it received a "threatening email."

The email came in around noon, and all students and staff were put in a shelter-in-place as the Erie County Sheriff's Office bomb squad and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority investigated.

2 On Your Side learned from the sheriff's office that the emails claimed that there were bombs in each school, set to go off, but the threats were deemed not credible.

Schools later returned to normal activities.

"These emails have been found to be a hoax and are baseless in nature. At the time of this email, only one school district within Erie County (Alden Central Schools) has been impacted," the sheriff's office said.
