A woman from Sanborn pleaded guilty to crashing a vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, resulting in the death of a passenger.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A Sanborn woman pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, resulting in the death of a passenger.

Ninaatikwe A. Hamby, 19, pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday to Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree.

She admitted to driving the vehicle under the influence of cannabis, crashing at Walmore and Upper Mountain Roads, and causing the death of a passenger inside the car.

“The outcome of Ms. Hamby’s decision to drive while under the influence of cannabis was the death of a family member," said Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman.

"It just can’t be understated how dangerous it is to drive while under the influence of marijuana.  Here the results are the complete devastation of a family.”

Hamby faces up to seven years in prison and will return to court at a later date for sentencing.
